Western Capitals Fall to Timberwolves in 6-3 Road Decision

By Reegan MacAulay

The Summerside Western Capitals battled the Miramichi Timberwolves in a closely contested road matchup Sunday afternoon before Miramichi’s four-goal third-period surge led to a 6-3 loss at the Miramichi Civic Centre.

In the first meeting between the two teams this season, the Western Capitals held multiple leads through the opening 40 minutes despite trailing in shots on goal. Summerside carried a 3-2 lead into the third period, but two early penalties allowed the Timberwolves to swing the momentum and take control.

The Western Capitals opened the scoring at 17:32 of the first period on the power play, as Aiden Diamond found the back of the net amid a scramble in front for his first goal with Summerside.

At 2:55 of the second period, Harlan Eustace tied the game for Miramichi, 1-1. The teams then traded goals on the power play, with Lincoln Waugh restoring Summerside’s lead at 11:09 before Eustace evened the score again at 14:38.

With the game seemingly headed into the second intermission tied 2-2, Max Gamble had other plans. During a rush up the ice, Maverick Hayes fed Cade Moser on the left side, and Moser quickly sent the puck across to Gamble, who buried a one-timer from the right faceoff circle with just eight seconds remaining to give the Western Capitals a 3-2 lead.

The lead lasted just 18 seconds into the third period before Miramichi found the equalizer and later added three more goals from Charles-Olivier Giguère (2), Kaden McNeil, and Anthony Morin to pull away for a 6-3 victory.

Miramichi finished with a 44-35 advantage in shots on goal. Summerside goaltender Max Picard made 38 saves to keep the Western Capitals within reach, while Alexandro Montoya stopped 32 shots for the Timberwolves.

Summerside went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Miramichi converted once on five opportunities.

Following Sunday’s result, the Western Capitals sit at 6-5-0 through 11 games, ranking third in the Eastlink South Division and seventh in the league standings.

Summerside now faces a busy weekend, with three games in three days from Friday, October 23, through Sunday, October 25.

The Western Capitals head to Pictou County on Friday to face the Crushers before returning to Credit Union Place for back-to-back home games against the Yarmouth Mariners. Saturday’s matchup will feature the annual Halloween Game, followed by Kids Run the Show Night on Sunday.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for both home games are available at www.creditunionplace.ca.
