McCarthy hired as Assistant Coach

The Summerside Western Capitals are pleased to announce the hiring of Brendan McCarthy as an Assistant Coach for the 2026–27 season.

McCarthy returns to the Western Capitals after helping the club capture a Maritime Hockey League championship during the 2021–22 season, serving as an Assistant Captain while recording 24 points in 49 games.

Following his time in Summerside, the St. John’s, Newfoundland native continued his playing career at York University, where he spent four seasons with the Lions, serving as an Assistant Captain. Prior to joining the Capitals, McCarthy also appeared in 37 QMJHL games with the Charlottetown Islanders.

Now pursuing his MBA in Global Leadership at the University of Prince Edward Island, Brendan has quickly built an impressive coaching résumé through his work with Power Conditioning Inc. as Assistant Director and Strength & Conditioning Coach, while also mentoring and developing athletes through a variety of coaching and leadership roles.

We’re excited to welcome Brendan back to Summerside and look forward to the leadership, knowledge, and championship experience he’ll bring to our coaching staff this season.
