Offence clicking as Caps romp Lumberjacks

  SUMMERSIDE -- Offence has not been a problem for the Summerside Western Capitals early in the 2009-10 Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League regular season.
After a scoreless first period Sunday, the Capitals scored eight goals in the final 40 minutes to blank the Bridgewater Lumberjacks 8-0. The win improved the Capitals' record to 5-1-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) and Bridgewater fell to 1-2-3-1.
Before 934 fans at Credit Union Place, Trevor Carmichael scored three goals and added an assist while Harrison McIver contributed four helpers to lead the Capitals, who have scored a league-high 41 goals. Goaltender Paul Dorsey stopped 23 shots to earn the shutout.
Chad Earle (2), Darcy Ashley (1-2), Jason Gallant and Neil Sherren also scored for the Capitals, who took a 4-0 advantage into the second intermission. Daniel Whelan (2), Jason Cameron, Matt Kelly, Nathan DesRoches, Parker Deighan, Steve Brazil and Willie Whelan added assists.
Overall, the Capitals held a 34-23 shots-on-goal advantage. Philip Wright was the losing goaltender.
The Caps went 4-for-13 on the power play and Lumberjacks were 0-for-10 with the man advantage in the penalty-filled game.
