Caps Take Two of Three on Weekend

MIRAMICHI, N.B. -- The Summerside Western Capitals won two of three Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League pre-season road games over the long weekend. The Caps doubled Miramichi 4-2 on Monday night, defeated Woodstock 6-2 on Friday and lost 8-6 to Amherst on Saturday.   The Caps, who finished the pre-season 2-2 (won-lost), host Dieppe in their regular-season opener Sunday at 4 p.m.
Monday In Miramichi, N.B., Matt Myers (2), Nathan DesRoches and Trevor Carmichael scored for the Caps, who took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission after a scoreless first period. Travis Wilkins and Jared Kelly split the game in goal for the Caps.
Saturday In Amherst, N.S., the Ramblers built period leads of 6-4 and 8-4. Carmichael (2), Darcy Ashley (1-2), Chad Earle, Daniel Whelan and Marshall Ellis scored for the Caps. Kelly gave up six goals on 21 shots and Wilkins stopped 27 of 29 shots.
Friday In Woodstock, N.B., Ashley (2), Carmichael (1-2), Earle, Matt Kelly and Jason Cameron scored for the Caps, who held period leads of 3-2 and 5-2. Kelly went the distance in earning the victory.
