Royal Bank Cup Decision

Friday, July 10th 2009Summerside- The Summerside Western Capitals have been notified by Hockey Canada as of Tuesday July 7th 2009, that the Site Selection Committee for the 2011 Royal Bank Cup had made a recommendation, which has been approved by the Junior Council, not to award the 2011 RBC to either of the final two communities that had submitted bids for 2011 and instead to re-enter into the bidding process for the 2011 RBC.   The Summerside Western Capitals have been advised that the reasoning for the site selection committee’s decision to enter into another bidding process for the 2010 Royal Bank Cup host site resulted because of concerns raised with respect to our teams actions at the 2009 Royal Bank Cup in Victoria BC. Hockey Canada was very pleased with the bid application and presentation and has commented on the professionalism of the bid that was presented from the bidding group from Summerside which included the Western Capitals.   Following discussions with Hockey Canada and the City of Summerside, the Summerside Western Capitals have decided, because of the late date, not to re-enter into the bidding process for the 2011 Royal Bank Cup but to concentrate our efforts in entering and winning the process for 2012.   At this time the Summerside Western Capitals, although we understand the concerns of Hockey Canada, are extremely disappointed with the decision that was made on this event. We will endeavor to continue to grow Junior Hockey within the City and our league and look forward to 2010 hockey season and prove to Hockey Canada that the level of professionalism that we operate with is second to none.   The Summerside Western Capitals staff, in partnership with the City of Summerside and the local host committee, are working hard on the 2009 World Junior “A” Challenge and will strive to make this tournament the best ever this November.
