Capitals up 2-0 after convincing road win in MiramichiWednesday, March 25th 2009 Capitals up 2-0 after convincing road win in Miramichi JASON SIMMONDS The Journal Pioneer MIRAMICHI, N.B. -- The Summerside Western Capitals have taken control of the Roger Meek Division championship series after a convincing road win Tuesday night. The Capitals fired 68 shots at the Miramichi Timberwolves' net en route to a 7-1 victory and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League playoff matchup. The series resumes at Credit Union Place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Before 902 fans at the Miramichi Civic Centre, sophomore Trevor Carmichael scored two first-period goals to stake the Caps to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Bradley Smith, who connected on the power play, and rookie Spencer MacDonald scored 31 seconds apart early in the second period to make it 4-0. Keith Bombaugh, assisted by Andrew White and Nathan McQuaid, got Miramichi on the scoreboard at 17:07 of the middle frame. Brett Gallant, Mike MacIsaac and Nathan DesRoches added third-period goals for the Caps, who were 2-for-10 with the man advantage and killed off all five Miramichi power plays. Chad Locke (3), Spencer Corcoran (3), Harrison McIver (3), Nathan DesRoches (2), Carmichael and Kyle Mariani added assists for the Caps, who improved to 6-0 in the post-season. Winning goaltender Alex Dupuis made 26 saves. Miramichi starter Bradley Dyke gave up four goals on 24 shots in 23:42 of action. Wesley Annis stopped 41 of 44 the rest of the way.
