Last season, the Capitals went into the Roger Meek Division final with
home-ice advantage and the better regular-season record. This year, though,
it's the Timberwolves who enjoy the extra home game after finishing higher

SUMMERSIDE — Rookie Jason Cameron scored two third-period goals to extend the Summerside Western Capitals’ winning streak to five games Sunday in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
Cameron’s goal at 16:33 snapped a 4-4 tie and he sealed the 6-4 win over the Pictou County Weeks Crushers with an empty-net goal at 19:18, as the Capitals improved to 23-16-1-1.
Saturday, the Capitals edged the host Campbellton Tigers 7-6 in overtime.

Less than 48 hours after allowing two goals in the final two minutes of the third period in a 6-5 loss in Bridgewater on Friday night, the Capitals posted a 4-1 victory over the Yarmouth Mariners in a Maritime Junior ‘A’ Hockey League contest.
“The score on Friday night wasn’t really indicative of the score,” said Caps head coach Gordie Dwyer. “The group seems like it is playing with a lot more energy, and today it was a good team effort by everybody.” |

He’s stays in the background and seeks no fanfare, but make no mistake about it, Joe Borden is an integral part of the Summerside Western Capitals’ coaching staff.
Borden, who resides in Summerside with his wife Claire, is the Caps’ strength and conditioning coach.
“Joe Borden is an invaluable part of our staff,” said Caps head coach Kenny MacDougall. “He’s been the driving force in getting the players in the great shape they’re in today.”
A member of the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame, Borden has trained young athletes for years.

A deal has been inked with the Fred Page Cup host committee for Credit Union Place to host two games.
The games featuring the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League-champion Capitals will be staged Wednesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Jonathan McArthur scored 5:43 into double overtime to give the Bearcats a 3-2 come-from-behind victory before 1,506 fans at the Colchester Legion Stadium. The best-of-seven series is now tied 1-1.
"It was a back-and-forth game, a see-saw battle and pretty well went down to last shot wins," assessed Caps head coach Kenny MacDougall.
The Capitals, who blanked Truro 3-0 in the series opener Sunday, entered the game 9-0 (won-lost) in post-season play.

SUMMERSIDE -- The Summerside Western Capitals will be without captain Brett Gallant when the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League's Kent Cup final resumes in Truro, N.S., tonight.
Gallant was injured in the second period of the Caps' 3-0 victory over the Truro Bearcats in Game 1 of the best-of-seven before almost 3,400 fans in Summerside on Sunday night.

The Truro Bearcats may have a reputation of being a stingy defensive team, but the Summerside Western Capitals proved they can play that way, too.
The Capitals limited the Bearcats to 20 shots, including just 12 through the first two periods, en route to a 3-0 win in the opening game of the best-of-seven Kent Cup final in the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League on Sunday night.
"The home team was better than us and they deserved to win -- end of story," said Truro general manager and head coach Shawn Evans.
Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is in Truro on Tuesday, with Game 3 back in Summerside on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Before 3,389 lively fans at Credit Union Place, Alex Dupuis earned the shutout while Josh Currie, Spencer Corcoran and Bradley Smith scored for the Capitals, who improved to 9-0 (won-lost) in the playoffs.

Alex Dupuis continued to provide the Summerside Western Capitals with rock-solid goaltending in the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League playoffs Sunday night.
Dupuis posted a 20-save shutout as the Caps downed the Truro Bearcats 3-0 in the opening game of the best-of-seven Kent Cup final.
"This is a huge win," said Dupuis. "You never want to start behind the 8-ball."
Dupuis certainly wasn't overworked, but he was more than equal to the challenge when tested.
"Alex Dupuis, all year long, has made the big save when we needed it," said Capitals head coach Kenny MacDougall. "That's a credit to his focus and concentration. There were times when he didn't get a whole lot of action, but he stayed in the game."

“That’s for sure,” said Caps defenceman Daniel Whelan. “Everybody who was here a couple of years ago, when we came very close, is very hungry this year to get the job done.”

“I expect intensity for sure,” said Capitals head coach Kenny MacDougall. “It’s two teams with a lot of talent and speed. It’s going to be a fast-skating series and it will be old-time playoff hockey.”

DIEPPE, N.B. -- It was a clean sweep for the Summerside Western Caps.
Saturday night at the Arthur-J.-LeBlanc Arena in Dieppe before 702 fans, the Caps downed the Dieppe Gagnon Commandos 6-3, winning the Roger Meek Division semifinal series 4-0.
Summerside's Chad Locke was on fire, with three goals.
Locke opened the scoring on the power play at 2:19 in the first period, The goal was assisted by Brett Gallant and Mike MacIsaac.

Capitals Prepare for Game Four
Summerside, PE- Coming off a convincing 5-2 victory on home ice Wednesday evening, the Summerside Western Capitals travel to Dieppe tomorrow (Saturday) evening to take on the Commandos in game four of the Roger Meek Division Semi-Final series, holding a 3-0 series lead.
The Capitals will look to earn a birth in the Meek Division Finals with a win on Saturday, but the Commandos will be tough "Saturday's game will be another battle that our players need to be up for as there is no quit in the Dieppe team." stated Western Capitals Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kenny MacDougall. He added, "Our focus remains the same as it was at the beginning of the series- one game at a time."
Although the Capitals have been the victors of the first three games of the series, all games have been fast-paced and entertaining thus far, as MacDougall explains, "The series to date has been an intense one. Although we are leading 3-0 we know that Dieppe has an outstanding team.".
Saturday's game four is scheduled for 7:00pm at the Arthur J. LeBlanc Arena. If necessary, game five will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm at Credit Union Place in Summerside.

DIEPPE, N.B. -- Just two games into the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League playoffs and the Dieppe Gagnon Commandos are already in big trouble.
The Summerside Western Capitals were the top team in the league during the regular season and showed why Monday night.
Not once, but twice they rallied from deficits -- they trailed 2-0 before the game was three minutes old -- and doubled the Commandos 6-3 in a chippy playoff game in front of a crowd of nearly 650 at the Arthur J. LeBlanc Centre.

Seven-year-old Alex Compton was the Caps’ honorary starting goaltender in Sunday's game one vs. Dieppe. Compton, who also plays goal with a Summerside novice team, has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. He was dressed in full gear, stood alongside Dupuis in the Caps’ goal for the pre-game ceremony and received a standing ovation from the near 1,800 fans in attendance.

Summerside, PE- Returning to home ice with a 2-0 series lead, the Summerside Western Capitals will host the Dieppe Commandos tonight (Wednesday) evening at Credit Union Place in game three of the Roger Meek Division Semi-Final Series.
The Capitals turned in a solid performance Monday evening in Dieppe at the Arthur J. LeBlanc Arena, doubling up the Commandos by a score of 6-3. Capitals forward Mike MacIsaac was the star of the game Monday evening, scoring three goals and adding an assist while being named the games first star. MacIsaac also netted the game winner, and now has six points (4-2) in the first two games of the series.

Brett Gallant banged a Mike MacIsaac rebound over Commandos goaltender Mathieu Gauvreau 1:50 into the second overtime period to give the Capitals a 5-4 win before a lively 1,799 fans at Credit Union Place on Sunday afternoon.

The Summerside Western Capitals clinched first place overall in the regular season of the Maritime Junior “A” Hockey League last night when they doubled the Woodstock Slammers 6-3.
The Slammers launched a powerful attack scoring two quick goals in the opening stanza, but the Capitals responded soon after with two goals from Parker Deighan. Todd Cusack scored another to bring the Slammers into the lead again, but Summerside’s Brett Gallant tied it up again before the first period ended with the first of his two goals of the night.

STANHOPE -- Daniel Whelan reached a milestone not too many junior 'A' hockey players achieve.
The fourth-year defenceman, who still has one full year of eligibility, played in his 200th game Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League game with the Summerside Western Capitals on Thursday night.
"I didn't have a clue," said Whelan when informed of the milestone. "I figured I'd be getting up there, but I didn't think I'd be at 200 yet."

The Dieppe Commandos overcame 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to pull out a 4-3 victory and prevent the Capitals from picking up an extra point. The Capitals (34-12-0-1) edged Amherst 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

Bridgewater, N.S. – A win last night brought the Summerside Western Capitals into first place in the Maritime Junior ‘A’ Hockey League. When the Caps eased past the Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks 5-2 it gave the Capitals sole possession of first place in the Roger Meek Division.
Mike MacIsaac led the Western Capitals (33-12-0-0) with a hat trick plus an assist, while Nathan Snowie added a goal and two assists. Brett Gallant collected three assists.

| Capitals Sign Dorsey |

Summerside, PE- The Summerside Western Capitals are pleased to announce the team has signed 18 year-old goaltender Paul Dorsey.
The Kanata, Ontario native comes to the team from the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League, where he appeared in one game this season. He has also spent time with the Restigouche Tigres of the MJAHL.
Last season, he split time between the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the Val d'or Foreurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, appearing in 20 games total.
He will replace 17 year-old trade deadline acquisition Jonathan Connely, who has been recalled by the Lewiston Maineiacs of the QMJHL.
Dorsey will join the team immediately and will suit for the Capitals as they travel to Bridgewater Friday evening to take on the Lumberjacks before returning home Sunday to host the Amherst Ramblers.

| Caps Fall to Slammers |

The Summerside Western Capitals fought back in the last period of Sunday’s game against the Woodstock Slammers, but it was too late.
The Slammers returned to New Brunswick with another win under their belts after doubling the home team 4-2.
Adam Laite and Bruno Gosselin led the Slammers (27-12-1-5) with two goals apiece while Brad Jackson and John Chayka added two assists each.
The Slammers dominated the first two periods scoring a goal in each. Laite got both and they went unanswered, until the start of the final period.

SUMMERSIDE -- It was a productive weekend for the Summerside Western Capitals.
"You look at the big picture and we got four points," said Caps head coach Kenny MacDougall, whose team has won five games in a row and 16 of their last 19.
The Capitals picked up two wins against Maurice Bent Division opponents to open up a four-point lead over Miramichi atop the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League's overall and Roger Meek Division standings.
The Caps followed a 9-5 victory in Amherst, N.S., on Saturday night with a 6-5 overtime decision over the Yarmouth Mariners on Sunday.
Before 910 fans at Credit Union Place, Nathan Snowie fed a charging Josh McKinnon with a perfect pass in the centre of the ice just inside the blue-line and he was able to walk into the slot before beating Yarmouth goaltender Justin Collier with a hard low wrist shot 51 seconds into the extra period. |

The teams went into the second period tied 3-3, but the Caps scored six goals, including two short-handed markers 17 seconds apart, to build a 9-4 lead following 40 minutes.
Nathan Snowie scored a hat trick and Mike MacIsaac had a goal and three assists to lead the Capitals, who improved to 31-10-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).

SUMMERSIDE -- The Summerside Western Capitals face two tough weekend tests as they look to maintain first-place overall in the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League standings.
The Capitals, who moved one point ahead of the Truro Bearcats with a 5-3 win in Halifax on Tuesday, visit the Amherst Ramblers on Saturday at 7 p.m., and then host the Yarmouth Mariners on Sunday at a later-than-normal start time of 4 p.m.
"Every weekend is a test in this league as there is such parity," said Capitals head coach Kenny MacDougall.
The Capitals are 30-10-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) and lead the Miramichi Timberwolves (26-11-1-3) by four points atop the Roger Meek Division. Miramichi, meanwhile, hosts Restigouche (5-32-2-1) and Halifax (6-32-2-3) this weekend.
The Ramblers, who are 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 games, are 24-11-2-3 and sit second in the Maurice Bent Division, six points back of the Bearcats. |

Brad Smith led the Western Capitals with three goals and one assist while Mike MacIsaac added two goals and one assist. Spencer Corcoran collected five assists.
Smith opened the scoring at 8:03 to give the Western Capitals a 1-0 lead. MacIsaac (game winner) scored 52 seconds later at 8:55 to extend the lead to 2-0.

McIver picked up an assist on linemate Erik Belanger's goal at 9:06 of the third period that closed out the scoring in Team East's 6-3 victory over Team West. Stephen Horyl of the Truro Bearcats also played on the line with McIver and Belanger, who plays with Sudbury of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The 20-year-old Summerside native, who's six-foot-one and 195 pounds, had an excellent showing at the MJAHL Showcase in Summerside. He was selected to the first all-star team for the weekend.
Corcoran played a big role in the Caps' two wins during the Showcase, chipping in two goals and assisting on two more.
Corcoran, who previously played with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey, hopes to head to university after completing his junior 'A' career. His future plans include owning and operating a successful business. |

After a strong summer of drafting and recruiting, the Summerside Western Capitals are primed and ready to open the 2008/09 season as training camp begins this coming Monday, August 25th at Credit Union Place in Summerside.
For the first time in club history, the team will be holding two separate training camps, which will merge together as camp progresses. "This year will be a highly competitive camp. We are having a three day rookie camp to identify players with an interest and ability to play at a higher level", explains Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kenny MacDougall. "After three days we will pair down the group considerably and invite those that make the cut to join our veteran group for the official beginning of camp." |
